Coast and Country Alliance
Nuala Friel (Team Captain) and her trusty team comprising of Mo Bradley-Travis, Hazel Calderwood, Emily McEldowney and Lorna Torrens went into the third meeting of the 2006/07 Alliance Campaign conscious of the need to maintain their lead in the competition after winning the first two outings.

Staged at Gracehill Golf Club in favourable weather conditions, the course provided it's usual challenge of long holes and plenty of water hazards to negotiate. Home advantage was to prove crucial with the hosts topping the scoring, but Kilrea managed to return the day's second best score and took the six points to keep them three clear in the overall league table.

Turkey Competition 29th Oct - 4th Nov
It may sound a bit premature, but Kilrea Ladies are on the hunt for their Christmas dinners. The annual turkey competitions started on 29th October and will run for five weeks on an "any day" card basis.

The turkeys are generously provided by an anonymous sponsor no - not Santa Clause. The first week's turkey was a close run thing between two Committee members in the form of the Ladies Branch treasurer Mo Bradley-Travis and the Public Relations Officer, Hazel Calderwood. Hazel played on the first day of the competition and turned in what would normally be a winning score of 39points.

But Mo came out fighting on Friday 3 Nov and had her sights well and truly fixed on the Festive Meal so much so that she scored 20 points on the front nine and 20 on the back pipping Hazel at the post. So with another four turkeys to play for the Ladies will be out again next week to put their name on the Big Bird.

No stopping Lorna at Present
Lorna Torrens is certainly the lady in form at Kilrea Golf Club as the leaves fall and the year nears an end. This has been evidenced by the brilliance of her last three performances, two individually and the third representing the Club in the 2006 Coast and Country Alliance campaign.

The last week in October saw the 'Committee Surprise' stableford event, where Lorna was in tremendous form to record a massive winning score of 43 points. Building on this, not even difficult playing conditions, including thick fog or the ever consistent Club stalwart Jo McAlary could not stop Lorna winning the McNaughton Cup, where she treated Jo to the 'dog licence' in the final decider.

Then in the latest outing The Ladies Branch had another impressive win in the second meeting when Nuala Friel (Team Captain) took her squad to Moyola Golf Club on Wednesday 25 October. Again Lorna came out on top with the best card of the day scoring 36 points. The rest of the team backed her up and Kilrea recorded their second win of the 2006 Alliance Campaign picking up all 7 points. Moyola were 2nd and Gracehill 3rd. So Kilrea ladies top the table win 2 wins in 2 outings. The next outing to Gracehill on Wednesday 1 November will be a big challenge for the top 3 Clubs and Team Captain Nuala is looking forward to another high scoring outing.
